From One Classroom
students passed the quiz — after a single game session, zero writing drills
One Mandarin teacher, one afterschool session — early but representative of how the games shift retention. We're running larger pilots this term.
I used it during my afterschool class with the students. Previously, 1 out of 6 students would get all characters correct when I gave them a quiz after making them write each character 6–8 times.
One day I didn't make them write — I just asked the students to come in pairs and play the Say the Beat game by my computer. Then I gave a quiz. 5 out of 6 students got all of the characters correct.
Each student only had a few minutes of game time — yet it's not only effective, the kids had so much fun that the whole class was filled with laughter.
