What is Character games for Nani Mandarin (南一國語)?

Nani Mandarin character games take the new characters from each lesson of the 南一版 elementary 國語 textbook and connect them to the character-recognition games on Boba Chinese Classroom. The lists are compiled from the tables published on the Ministry of Education's Education Cloud. Teachers and parents pick a lesson in the browser and play, without typing up flashcards or installing anything.

In the classroom

Before class, find this week's lesson, choose a game, and project it for the class to answer in turns. Each lesson's bank holds that lesson's new characters and carries the same lesson name as the textbook's table of contents, so switching games is a matter of going back to the lesson list and picking another one. After saving the lesson to My Portal you can also run it as a Live Lesson, with students joining on their own devices.

At home

For review at home, find the lesson your child is on this week and let them choose the game. Every character has audio, so a tap plays the pronunciation without an adult reading along.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?
Yes. Play in the browser at classroom.bbchinese.com with no account and nothing to install.
Which books are covered?
Books 1 to 12, which is the first semester of Grade 1 through the second semester of Grade 6, one word bank per lesson, named the way the textbook names them.
Where do the character lists come from?
The Ministry of Education's Education Cloud (教育百科) publishes a character and vocabulary table for each edition of the elementary Mandarin textbook, lesson by lesson, and the banks here hold the new characters of each Nani lesson. Recognition-only characters (認讀字) are left out, because most of them come back as new characters in a later lesson.
Which school year's edition is this?
First-semester books follow the lesson order of school year 115 and second-semester books follow school year 114. Nani revises a few grades each year, so if the lesson names in your copy do not match the ones here, write to hello@bbchinese.com and tell us which book.
Can I use Simplified characters?
Yes. Switch the script in the page settings and the word banks and games follow.
Is this affiliated with Nani?
No. The word banks are compiled from the tables the Ministry of Education publishes and are not published by Nani.
